In memory of the 2nd anniversary of the release of Nirvana in Fire, we dedicate this piece as a tribute to Hu Ge and Mei Changsu.

Nirvana in Fire is airing for the second time. It is my favorite period drama of the last few years. It has been over a hundred days since I first watched it in November 2015. It still lingers on my mind, and the lead character brother Su (Su Zhe – Mei Changsu’s pseudonym) downright compelled me to become a diehard fan of Hu Ge. In the entire first episode, Brother Su, including Lin Shu in flashback memories, appears for only 16 minutes, but the plot is assembled piece by piece, an image builds up slowly, obscured in mystery, bearing the burden of a tormented past; a divine talent, unfathomable and possessing unparalleled wisdom, gradually builds up before us.
