Foreword from ThinkHuGe Team: There are several reasons why we choose to translate this particular essay for Hu Ge’s birthday. First of all, the writer is relatively a new fan, and through this essay, we can see how someone who wasn’t a fan at the beginning progressed from apathy to interest and finally admiration. That Hu Ge has managed to turn many people around in their opinions about him in the last twelve months is truly an amazing feat (and yes, most members of this team belong to this category too).
Second, it’s really thoughtful, heartfelt essay, and it focuses on Hu Ge both as a person and an actor. On a day that celebrates his birth, it feels more fitting somehow to put attention on him instead of his jobs. The writer also tries hard to stay objective in her analysis of Hu Ge, which, in our opinion, is another plus point.
Last but not least, we choose this essay because it’s not only about Hu Ge, but also the writer, and what is a better birthday gift than the knowledge that he has touched many people’s lives and inspired them to overcome hardships and become stronger, just as he did-and still does.
And so without further ado, here is “A Song of Hu Ge”. 🙂
